I suppose The Banana Splits wasn’t enough, it looks like Fantasy Island is getting the horror treatment. It’s gotten to the point that when I see Blumhouse attached to anything, my heart sinks a little. You know it’s all going to take place in one location (well, it is Fantasy Island), and will have a ridiculous and pointless twist starting the third act. Now I will concede that the premise of the original television series would lend well to horror, I think the trend of everything having to be dark and dour in modern media is getting a little old. While Island does look a little more “high rent” than Banana Splits, let alone a Blumhouse production, my interest in this is zero.
Besides, it’s impossible to replace Montalbán and Villachaize. But since all Intellectual Property seems to be fair game in this market, I suppose something dumb like this was inevitable.
