I am not one of these people that say crass shit like “Says the guy who worships make believe bearded aliens!”, or whatever those clever anti-theists like to say. However when someone makes an asinine statement, call it for what it is. Hot on the heels of KFC announcing their vegan “Imposter” sandwich and Burger King with their “Impossible Whopper”, Televangelist Rick Wiles implies that the use of meat substitutes are a deliberate plot to alter human DNA.
“When you go to your favorite fast food restaurant, you are going to be eating a fake hamburger,” Wiles said in a video clip flagged by Right Wing Watch. “You’re going to go to the grocery store and buy a pound of fake hamburger or a fake steak, and you won’t know that it was grown in some big corporation’s laboratory.”
Wiles added that he believes this is a “nightmare world” that seeks to change “God’s creation.” Meatless companies want to “be God,” he said.
I don’t see much of a difference between this and arguments made against GMO’s. In fact several outlets warn that the impossible burger may be dangerous to your health and the environment.
It appears that meatless options are the holy grail in the food industry, there’s nothing new about that. There’s also a chance that the impossible meats trend is just a scam and we’ll be eating meat anyway. I’m just waiting for the next logical step…
