“DEBBIE Harry claims she escaped the clutches of serial killer Ted Bundy when she hitched a lift from a stranger in the early 1970s.
The iconic lead singer of Blondie, 73, is expected to discuss the alleged attempted abduction in her upcoming memoir Face It, according to reports.”
As The Sun notes, however, it is not likely that it was Bundy that Debbie had encountered. Bundy at the time was located mainly in the northwest, the alleged encounter happened in Manhattan. The Sun also pointed out that Bundy did have grandparents in Philadelphia, so the encounter may be plausible as he had been known to “go off the grid.”
Harry described encountering the man as having a white car with a stripped out interior. She was wise to trust her instincts, she felt she was in danger at the time. It occured to her much later that the man may have been Bundy after reading about him after his execution. Each and everyone of us have had encounters that we look back with hindsight and say to ourselves “Maybe.” I will not be the one to discount her claim in any way. You can decide for yourself when Harry’s book Face It comes out in October.
