Earlier this week I had noticed an event being discussed, at least in meme form, regarding the possibility of storming Area 51. A facebook Event was posted titled “Storm Area 51, They Can’t Stop All of Us.” The event is planned on September 20 at approximately 3:00AM.
We will all meet up at the Area 51 Alien Center tourist attraction and coordinate our entry. If we naruto run, we can move faster than their bullets. Lets see them aliens.
“Naruto” refers to some anime/weeaboo shit, so you can imagine that this is largely shitposting. Indeed, one of the founders of the event is a meme page titled Shitposting because im in shambles [sic]. As of this writing, approximately 125,000 users have indicated that they will be going. Another 158,000 users have stated interest in the event. This may be a joke at face value, but remember that social media has created a living meme environment that encourages people to do some pretty stupid shit. I personally view Area 51 as a top secret military installation that probably contains some pretty anti-climactic “evidence” by conspiracy theorist standards. That being said, the legend of Roswell, NM (1947), the overall secrecy of the federal government and its military activities have fueled the fire of speculation for generations.
The Facebook event currently has a discussion of nearly 6,000 posts; all ranging from memes and jokes to tactical discussion. In some cases, a mix of both.
I must admit that I have clicked the “Interested” box on the event. As sympathetic I may be to the cause, however, I sincerely hope that nobody takes this event seriously. I want to know the truth as much as anybody else. I also know that there are many anarchist-minded people who are waiting for the great Boogaloo, but somehow I don’t think something like this would end well.
Still, the truth is out there and I’ll be watching!
